We introduced the girls who attended to fractals, Hanoi towers, Mobius strips, Rubik’s cubes and other math related games. I’d recommend any of these as great tools for boys and girls to explore interesting, hands-on math concepts.
If you’re interested in teaching the girls in your life more about Women in Mathematics, the American Mathematical Society has a great site with information and resources:

The 2015-2016 school year is well underway and Amy Tutors would like to remind our neighbors that we’re here to help. We still offer expert Math Tutoring, English Tutoring, Test Preparation, and Study Skills Help.
We offer one-on-one tutoring in English: Phonics, Reading, Writing, Essay Writing, and Literature; Math: Elementary Math, Pre-Algebra, Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, and Calculus; Test Preparation: FCAT, SAT, ACT, ASVAB, TEAS, PERT, and GRE and more!
As always, we encourage parents and students to act early. Don’t wait until you or your child is failing. Usually, a lot of critical information has been missed by the time you see the first failed test score. Please visit the Why Tutoring page for more information on the warning signs that let you know when it’s time to get help.
- Skimming: For classes that have excessive reading requirements (for example, you have to read several chapters in one evening), skimming for main ideas can save time.
- Highlighting: In addition to skimming, highlighting can help you memorize definition s and main ideas. It also helps you bookmark the parts you might need to review for a midterm or final.
Did you know that you can “give” and “get” at the same time when you perform community service? I’m surprised to hear some of my high schoolers say that they haven’t been advised about community service hours as a qualification for Florida Bright Futures Scholarships, so I wanted to pass that info along. And, summer is a great time to get started!
Florida Bright Futures Scholarships are available in three levels and can pay up to 100% of your tuition at an eligible Florida college or vocational school – depending upon your GPA, test scores and community service hours.

Test takers should be informed of the changes if they want to be successful on the new test. Some of the major changes are as follows:
Our Grand Opening was spectacular! Thanks to everyone who was able to attend! For those who were not, here is an overview of our activities. Guests enjoyed refreshments while the children tried our Saturday Story & Activity Time.
The kids could hardly wait to dig in!
Then the games began……
Then, we wound down with a story.
And all the children left with a little gift.
